According to the World Happiness Report 2024 released by Gallup, the United States has dropped to the 23rd happiest country. That’s down from 15th place last year.
The large drop is the result of the well-being of Americans under age 30. The U.S. ranks in the top 10 happiest countries for Americans over 60. But it ranks 62nd for those 30 and under. So, how should younger Americans work on finding happiness?
A new book / extended essay (64 pages) on the pursuit of happiness and what it means to Americans in 2024. New Yorker staff writer Adam Gopnik contends, “Our society is obsessed with achievement. Young people are pushed toward the next test or the ‘best’ grammar school, high school, or college they can get into.
