Toyota’s North American headquarters for management, sales and marketing, product planning and development, and research relocated into a new $1 billion headquarters campus in Plano in 2017. It employs over 4,000 people.

The total investment in Toyota’s San Antonio plant has grown to more than $4.7 billion with its announcement last June that it will make a $531 million investment to add a new 500,000-square-foot facility dedicated to drivetrain parts production. The expansion will bring another 400 new, high-quality jobs to San Antonio.  Some 9,400 people are already employed at the plant.

Moving its home base has allowed Toyota to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and position itself strategically within the U.S., while also contributing significantly to the growth and development of the Plano area.

Team Texas + On-Site Suppliers = 9,600 San Antonio Jobs

The automaker next purchased 2,678 acres of ranchland in San Antonio to build the Toyota Motor Manufacturing plant in San Antonio.  TMMTX broke ground in San Antonio in 2003

And began operations in 2006.  “Team Texas” at the San Antonio plant is comprised of 3,800+ employees who assemble Tundras and Sequoias. More than 20 on-site suppliers employ an additional 5,600 people. Thanks to them, a new truck rolls off the line every 60 seconds.

The Texas operations have allowed Toyota to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and position itself strategically within the U.S., while also contributing significantly to the growth and development of the Texas cities it has made its mark in.

A Strategic Partnership Yields Another Positive Economic Impact for Texas

Toyota first acquired a stake in Subaru’s parent company, Subaru Corporation in 2005. Over the years, Toyota has gradually increased its stake, and as of 2019, Toyota owns approximately 20% of Subaru Corporation. Last May, Subaru of America announced that it will move its central region office to the North Texas city of Coppell, Texas, from Itsaca, Illinois.

The Coppell new facility will also be home to Subaru’s customer support center.  The new facility will be located alongside Subaru’s existing distribution and training facility, built in 2016.  It will add another 200,000 square feet, expanding Subauru’s total footprint in Coppell to 500,600 square feet.  It is expected to be complete by early 2025.

The Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid, BRZ and Solterra showcase how Subaru and Toyota have combined their expertise to produce cars that benefit from the strengths of both brands.
