The Worrells’ Trip to Atlanta Would be Life-Changing

Fritzy was about three years old before the Worrells could take a break from their plight.  However, they would have to take “him.”  Their long trip by train to Atlanta to visit Dr. Troy and Miss Edwina Parker was a terrible ordeal with a physically and mentally challenged young Fritzy.  They arrive in Atlanta to see things that they had never before seen in rural Iowa.  “Colored Only” bathrooms and the Parker’s Southern mansion were a striking contrast. The “colored” house staff immediately take Fritzy and tend to his needs. They seem not to notice his very noticeable handicapped state, simply accepting him as he is.  They even seem able to communicate with him.  He not only tolerates it, but appears happy for the first time in his life.
