Teaching Children a Passion for Music

“What a tragedy it would be if we lived in a world
where music was not taught to children.”
– H. Norman Schwarzkopf. General, US Army, retired

A Passon for Music

Music education fosters cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development. It provides a platform for lifelong learning and enjoyment, contributing to the overall well-rounded development of the child. With music and art education cut from most school budgets in our country, Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO) fills the gap with signature music education and special programming for children, teens, and adults, as well as resources for teachers and parents.

The City of Dallas is blessed by the support of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League (DSOL). Its major annual events support these DSO outreach programs such as the Young Strings program and the Young Musicians program.

Chris Ferrara and The Common Good, will headline the 66th Annual Junior Symphony Ball (JSB) at Gilley’s Dallas for a night of music and dancing on January 27, 2024.  JSB is in its 66th year and is the longest running fundraiser of the DSOL.

Soon following the JSB event, 44 Debutantes will be presented at the 2024 DSOL Presentation Ball this February.  The annual ball event is the largest fundraiser for the DSOL. Over $13 million has been raised for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra through the annual event.

A passion for music

Born and raised in the small town of Sharon, MA, Chris Ferrara is a combination of city boy swagger and country boy soul. He relocated to Music City in 2013 with just a suitcase and a guitar, and he has been making a name for himself ever since
Margaret and Barry Hancock are Honorary Chairs for 2024 DSOL Presentation Ball. The couple met at 2nd Annual Presentation Ball in 1988 and married in 1992. The Hancock family is the first in which both parents and all children have participated in the Presentation Ball.  Their two daughters, Mary Margaret and Katherine, were DSOL debutantes and son, James, served on the Honor Guard.
