Home Exterior Home Design: What’s In & What’s Out

What’s Out

After decades of a modern aesthetic, with its sharp clean lines being the pinnacle of design, things are changing. While clean lines and simplicity remain timeless—especially for exteriors—homeowners are now craving warmth and personality in their spaces.”

What’s In

Exterior Design

2025 buyers are embracing history, sustainability, and being a part of something that has been on earth longer than they have. Modern interpretations of traditional styles like Colonial, Cape Cod, and Mediterranean are gaining popularity. The “neo” prefix indicates a more updated, less formal version of these classic looks, often with modern materials and layouts. Key features include steep roofs, simple symmetrical facades, and large porches, but incorporating modern building materials like steel and glass.

42% of American homeowners say they would go for a timeless neutral look if choosing an exterior home color in 2025. This means classic neutrals like white and cream remain popular for 2025 home exteriors due to their versatility and modern appeal. But there’s a growing shift towards warm, earthy tones that evoke a sense of well-being and connection to nature. Deeper grays, earthy browns and greens, and muted reds harmonize with their natural surroundings. These colors add a subtle elegance while creating an inviting atmosphere for added curb appeal.

Texture is key to defining a home’s character, adding depth and interest to exteriors.Increasingly, homeowners are mixing materials like brick with glass, metal or wood to create a dynamic, layered look that enhances both visual appeal and structural durability.

Homeowners are increasingly choosing sustainable, eco-friendly materials to reduce environmental impact, lower energy costs, and create healthier living spaces. There’s also a demand for stylish, low-maintenance options that offer lasting value without constant upkeep.
