Philanthropy Experts Discuss Giving Circles and Collaborative Funding

Philanthropy

Today is Giving Tuesday –one of the biggest giving days for nonprofits with $3.1 billion raised last year. But who and what causes receive the funds?

Nearly all of the $499.33 billion donated to charity goes to just 5% of all nonprofits. That leaves 95% of the sector overlooked and underinvested, say philanthropy experts.

Listen to these Ted Talks to learn how these different strategies can fund real change in a community.

  • Giving circles – groups of people who pool donations and collectively decide how to allocate the funds. Diversifying and democratizing philanthropy brings more voices to the table.
  • Collaborative funds – giving vehicles where funders pool their funding and enable scaled systems. This places the decision-making directly in the hands of community and organization leaders who are closest to the work.
