L’Auberge de Sedona—A Wondrous Place To Indulge in the Art of Doing Absolutely Nothing

Leaving the door open so we could glimpse Sedona’s Red Rock backdrop and hear the babbling of Oak Creek competing with the sound of pinion wood crackling in our fireplace, we were content to simply unwind on the crisp spring day of our stay at L’Auberge de Sedona.

Our friends at RAM had graciously allowed us to borrow a beautiful RAM 1500 Laramie Longhorn after a vehicle launch event that we attended in Phoenix as auto journalists.  We had driven to the Grand Canyon, and though our fancy truck was well equipped to handle just about anything, we high-tailed it back early to Sedona to beat a late season snowstorm.  While our canyon “hiking” had consisted of climbing in and out of our luxury truck to take in the scenic overlooks, when we saw the resort and our room, we weren’t about to go anywhere. This is the type of place where you park the car (or truck) and don’t see it again until you reluctantly check out of utopia.  We had the foresight to ask one of the drivers to take us on a quick trip to the local wine shop before we unpacked.

While the wine chilled, though it was a little cold for trying out our suite’s private outdoor cedar shower, we did anyway.  Fireplace roaring, wine poured, we snuggled into plush robes and enjoyed the bliss of doing absolutely nothing for an afternoon.  Our Creekside Cottage was one of 62 stand-alone cottages on the property. L’Auberge de Sedona also offers 21 traditional lodge-style guest rooms and a beautiful, five bedroom Creekhouse that is ideal for group buyouts.

After a dip in the heated pool, sheltered just enough for us to bask in the warmth of the late afternoon sun, it was soon time for dinner.  We strolled through the property’s colorful landscape of flowers, fruit trees and beautiful natural foliage to L’Auberge’s award-winning restaurant, Cress on Oak Creek– a perfect continuum for our tranquil mood.  Locally foraged and hand-selected ingredients were incorporated in delectable courses artfully presented.  Ah, with another lighting of the fireplace and that last glass of wine saved for a nightcap, we slept blissfully surrounded in the finest linens.

Had we had more time, we might have indulged in having custom body care blends of local ingredients massaged into our souls at the L’Apothecary Spa.  Concierge was standing ready with a menu of wellness focused activities–from “Forest Bathing” and “Full Moon Meditation,” to daily yoga and private vortex hikes. The resort’s private vehicle drivers were at beck and call to whisk guests off to numerous art galleries and boutiques or for golfing, hiking, horseback riding, jeep or helicopter tours, fishing and hot air balloon rides. Or, we might have  just repeated that perfect day.
