During the COVID pandemic, Chef Kenny Bowers found himself spending more time at home. He missed the liberating release of creating in the kitchen and overseeing his restaurant dynasty known for tasty food and over-the-top hospitality.
After sharing his frustration and need for a therapeutic outlet with one of his mentors, she suggested that he take up painting. Much to his surprise, Bowers discovered that the creative release of painting sustained and inspired him during the troubling times.
“Staying true to my “go big or go home” approach to my style of cooking and life. I have never been able to ‘stay inside the lines’ as a kid nor as an adult!” says Bowers. “It’s not about perfection but about real and raw freedom of expression. I prefer to paint quickly and spontaneously translating feelings to the canvas, eliminating any opportunities for second thoughts or regrets.”
As he became more confident about his work, he hung a small collection at Kenny’s Wood Fired Grill. All sales were donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. And long after the confines were lifted, the painting has continued. Bowers has since sold more than 250 paintings and has raised more than $56,000 for the children at St. Jude.

The recent Kenny Bowers Art Show displayed some 50 pieces of his work at Kenny’s Italian Kitchen.
Bowers invited guests to stop by and meet him, learn about his artistic vision and enjoy light bites and drinks. If you missed it, visit KennyBowersArt.com for a look at pieces available to buy in support of St. Jude.
