CX-90 Rolls Out as Mazda’s First 2024 SUV

2024 SUV

Mazda’s 3-row, 8-passenger Mazda 2024 CX-90 SUV replaces the previous model years’ Mazda CX-9. The first noticeable difference is a more muscular exterior and a wheelbase that’s 7.5 inches longer.

The new CX-90 gets a power boost from two new hybrid powertrain options. The turbocharged 3.3-liter inline six-cylinder paired with a mild hybrid assist produces 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft. torque.  We drove the upgraded 3.3 Turbo S cranking out 340 hp and 369 lb-ft when using premium gasoline.  And there’s also a plug-in hybrid version of the CX-90— Mazda’s first PHEV available in the U.S. and attains comparable performance ratings.

All CX-90 versions have standard all-wheel drive and eight-speed automatic.  Mazda vehicles have a bias toward the rear wheels, sustaining the brand’s signature zip. And like most Mazdas, CX-90 scores high on ride quality. The tow-capacity rating of 5,000 pounds (3,500 pounds with the PHEV) is another standout.

Mazda is always a high scorer on interior finish.  And it keeps getting even better, now placing Mazda’s 2024 SUV on par with at least the base level SUVs from luxury level contenders. Compared to CX-9, CX-90 has roomier third-row seating as well as more cargo space. Nicities included on all CX-90s include advanced driver adaptive cruise, lane keeping assistance, and blind-spot warning.

Pricing for 2024 CX-90 SUV starts at $40K. Our 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus model was loaded to the gills.  Its two-person third-row seat reduced capacity to seven passengers but added a list of just about everything imaginable including quilted leather upholstery and heating and ventilated front- and second-row seats. The total tag of the tester was $61,920 with delivery and special paint.
