All-New GMC Canyon Sets the Bar in the Mid-Size Competition

Debuting 10 years ago, the GMC Canyon midsize pickup made a name for itself. Agility, solid ride, responsive steering, strong powertrain, and excellent towing and hauling capabilities are its hallmarks.  The all-new 2023 Canyon arrives exclusively as a short-bed- crew-cab and retains all its previous stand-out attributes. But it now answers to consumer expectations that have changed dramatically over the past decade.   That means a roomier and more refined interior than before with plenty of standard technology features.

A Focus on Premium Trims

GMC boasts the industry’s highest average transaction prices on its pickupa. The brand’s premium off-road AT4 and luxury Denali trim make up the majority of its sales. With this in mind, the decision was made to give all Canyons the turbocharged 2.7-liter inline four-cylinder engine. It’s the same one that powers GMC’s half-ton pickups.  And GMC’s design team opted for all Canyons to sport the high output engine. Good for 310 hp and 430 lb-ft., Canyon is the most powerful among contenders in the mid-size segment.

Off-Road Capabilities Without Sacrificing On-Road Comforts

It starts with wider track stance and taller ride height with 9.6 inches of ground clearance. Add standard off-road suspension and lots of low- and mid-range torque from the powertrain. Four-wheel drive is also standard on all but the base models. Then, 10 available exterior cameras, including one underneath, help drivers get an up close and personal look while rock-climbing.

Our Denali-trimmed Canyon came with 20-inch diamond-cut aluminum wheels, chrome assist steps, a unique chrome grille, and a spray-on bedliner with Denali logo.  Inside was an exclusive Jet Black interior with teak accents and perforated diamond-quilted leather-appointed seating and accents. As an added touch, GMC pays homage to the inspiration for the name of its sub-brand with laser-etched and embossed maps of the summit of Mt. Denali throughout the seats, dashboard and door.  Standard vehicle price was $51K, Ours added Onyx Black paint and a power sliding glass sunroom with manual shade for a total price of $52,495 (just under $54K with destination charge).
