2025 Chevy Colorado-A Ready, Willing and Able Workhorse

Among the midsize truck options, the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado is a standout for its towing and hauling capabilities. Properly equipped, the Colorado can tow up to 7,700 pounds–the most in its class. An available Tow/Haul mode can help optimize performance when towing heavy loads. And another trailering package option monitors trailer mileage and diagnoses any issues.

The Colorado is powered by the same 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the full-size Silverado 1500 pickup.

 2025 Chevrolet Colorado

Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, it makes an impressive 310 hp and 430 lb-ft torque. Four-wheel drive is optional on entry level trims and standard on others.

Colorado’s five-foot cargo bed offers a mid-position tailgate with a 500-lb support capacity. The bed can be customized with up to 17 tie-downs, a built-in 120-volt power outlet, and a measurement tool in the tailgate to simplify your workday. Cargo bed lighting is also available to make it easier to load and unload at the end of the day. And there’s an available StowFlex tailgate feature with built-in storage.

As a traditional body-on-frame truck, the Colorado proves how far such trucks have come in terms of driving and handling. The engine is responsive with plenty of low-end torque. The transmission shifts smoothly and quickly, and the brakes keep it sure-footed.

The Colorado’s interior is well designed with control buttons and knobs that are still truck-like—nice and chunky and easy to find. The instrument panel is configurable with multiple views, and the infotainment system is powered by Google’s Android software. Indeed, the Colorado also has one of the better voice recognition systems that is easy to use. There’s also Alexa on board for Amazon users, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Chevy Safety Assist is standard on The 2025 Chevrolet Colorado. The suite of driver-assistance features includes Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, and IntelliBeam automatic high-beam assist.

Our range-topping ZR2 Colorado tester came equipped with the Advanced Trailering package and a host of standard off-road features.

Mud-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels and Multimatic DSSV dampers enhance control when off-roading. And the upgraded suspension has a 3-inch lift. Driver-selectable front and rear locking differentials and rocker-panel rails further ready the ZR2 to tackle rough terrain.

Compared to the base Work Truck version of the Colorado, which starts at $33,495, The ZR2’s standard vehicle price starts at $49,600. Our tester added on the Bison Edition package for another $11,700.  This gave it a high-approach stamped-steel front bumper with integrated recovery points and winch provisions and a bed-mounted vertical spare tire mount with full-size spare tire. Further adding to the ZR2’s off-road capabilities are the Bison Edition’s unique stamped-steel cut rear bumper with recovery points, AEV skid plates, 35-inch mud-terrain tires. 17-inch AEV wheels, AEV fender flares, and multimatic jounce-control/DSSV dampers.

Inside, the top-shelf model came with leather upholstery, driver’s seat memory settings, a heated steering wheel and ventilated front seats. A Technology Package added $1,450 for adaptive cruise control, surround-view camera system and a Bose sound system. A power sliding glass sunroof with manual shade added another $1,000.

After adding Radiant Red paint, options totaled $14,645. With destination charges, it was a $65,000 truck ready, willing and able to go to tackle anything your workday might require of it.
